Served as an Ensign in the Militia in 1761 as recorded in the “Justices and Militia officers,” 1754-1770. He is also listed in the “Revolutionary War Accounts,” Vol. I,pg. 33, Folio 2 and Vol. XI, pg. 83, Folio 4 as being paid by Comptroller’s Office

Andrew Bass of Wayne Co[unty], doctor, deed to Stephen Cobb, Joseph Pipkin, and Needham Whitfield, commissioners for erecting the public buildings For Wayne Co.,
Feb. 14, 1784, “for the consideration of the regard and respect which I have for the good government of the County of Wayne,” a parcel of three acres of land on the north bank of Neuse River below the mouth of the Little River beginning in an old field called West Point old field just below the landing, being part of the land he holds by deed from Robert Bignall, Esquire, for the erection of public buildings thereon and for holding Courts, auctions, general or petty musters, elections, and other kinds of business of a public nature.
